Carpet & Area Rug Cleaning

Why should I get my carpet cleaned?
Aside from the obvious reasons such as looks and making the carpet last longer, there is one reason people always seem to overlook. Carpet is like a giant air filter for your home. It traps dust and dirt and keeps it out of the air that you breathe. This filter does need to be cleaned from time to time. Once it is full of soil it stops improving your air quality and starts hurting it.
How often should I get my carpets cleaned?
Your carpet should be professionally cleaned at least every 12 to 18 months. This will vary due to the usage your carpet gets. Factors include number of people, pets, the outdoor environment surrounding your home and how well you maintain your carpet. In order to keep your warranty, carpet manufactures recommend getting your carpets professionally cleaned every 12 to 18 months.
How long will it take my carpet to dry after it is cleaned?
Your carpet should be dried and returned to normal use within 24 hours of cleaning it under normal conditions. Longer drying time of your carpet could result in a variety of after-cleaning problems such as: rapid re-soiling, or odor and microorganism development.
Do you guarantee to remove all spots and stains?
We have great success with most spots. A spot is something foreign on carpert or upholstery that can be removed. A stain is something that cannot be removed. This is determined after exhausting all spot removal possibilities. One way to help is regular cleaning of the carpet and applying Durashield Stain Resistant Spray applied after cleaning. But, there is no guarantee.
Do you move furniture when cleaning my carpet?
Yes, this is considered part of the normal cleaning job. Heavy dressers, waterbeds, loaded china cabinets, big TV's and delicate or fragile furnishings are exceptions. All furniture that is moved will be returned to its original position. Foam blocks or foil leg protectors will be placed under furniture to protect it from the damp carpet. It is appreciated if you remove the small items and breakables from the cleaning area.
How soon can I walk on the carpet?
Try to keep pets, children, and heavy traffic off the carpet as much as possible during the drying process. Wait 24 hours before removing foam blocks or protective tabs that our technicians have placed under the furniture to protect the carpet. Please use extreme caution when walking on the wet carpet and then going to hard surface areas as it may be slippery.
The tag on my upholstery says "Dry Clean only," Can you still clean it?
Many manufactures use this type of label on their upholstered products to keep them from being liable for problems that may occur during the cleaning process. Professional cleaners know that with knowledge, experience, proper cleaning agents, and advanced equipment they can clean the majority of fabrics that are labeled "dry clean only". Your Duraclean technicians will evaluate your upholstery and notify you if your furnishings should be dry-cleaned only.
How long will it take my upholstery to dry?
Duraclean uses state of the art truck-mounted equipment with unrivaled vacuum power to remove most of the water used during the cleaning process. In some cases following the cleaning, high speed air movers are used to speed up the drying time. Our cleaning process and professional equipment allows us to achieve drying times typically between 1-3 hours, but this depends on the type of fabric and its level of soiling.
Does Durashield work on my upholstery too?
Upholstery gets as much wear and tear as carpet does, so choosing to apply a protectant is a wise decision. Upholstery fabric is very different from carpeting in its materials and construction, so Duraclean offers a variation of Durashield designed specifically for upholstery.

Proper Care of your Carpet

  • Regular vacuuming of carpet.
This is the most important thing you can do for your carpet. Vacuuming removes the dry particle soil from your carpet that is tracked in by you, your children and your pets. If dry soil is left in your carpet the grit constantly wears your carpet fibers like sandpaper. This eventually removes your stain resistant coating on the fibers, then permanently wears the fibers itself, dulling the carpets color. This results in damage beyond repair, which ruins the beauty of your carpet.
  • Prompt clean up of spills.
The quicker you clean up spills on your carpet the easier they are to remove. Use clean white absorbent materials. Always blot up spills, do not aggressively rub or brush carpet.
  • Periodic professional cleaning.
Professional carpet cleaning is required to remove the deep down soil in your carpet that vacuuming does not reach. It also removes the oily soil from your carpet. Also, hot water extraction will refresh the texture of your carpet by resetting the twist of the carpet fibers. Periodic cleaning by a professional will also keep your carpet warranty valid.

Tile & Grout

  • Just like carpet, dirt builds up over time dulling your tile's appearance and discoloring your grout. A thorough, professional tile and grout cleaning is the only way to remove the deep-down dirt.
  • Many factors must be considered when determining the frequency of cleaning. Foot traffic, children, pets and routine floor maintenance will affect how often you have to have your tile and grout cleaned. Having a sealant applied to the grout lines following a professional cleaning will help extend the time between cleanings. Cleaning tile and grout is recommended every 18 - 24 months.
  • With Duraclean's state of the art truck-mounted tile and grout cleaning system, we actually remove the moisture as we go, your floor can be used immediately following the cleaning. The grout may appear darker in color in some areas, but grout can take up to 24 hours to dry completely.
  • Grout is a porous material that absorbs soil and spills, just like carpet. Having a sealant applied will help create a protective barrier, giving you more time to clean up dry and liquid dirt before it soaks into the grout. The type of sealant you choose will determine the degree of stain resistance.
  • We recommend that you wait 30 minutes before walking on the floor to allow the sealant to dry. It will take 24 hours for the sealant to cure completely, so we suggest that you avoid any liquid coming in contact with the sealant during that time. To preserve the life of the sealant, we recommend that you use a neutral cleaner on your floor. Rinsing after mopping will also help keep your floors looking their best. You will want to avoid bleach and other harsh chemical cleaners as these can wear away at the sealant and cause it to break down prematurely.

To limit damage, move any valuables or contentrs to a safe, unaffected area. Call Duraclean at 1-845.932.8475 to speak with a Water Damage Restoration Specialist. We provide emergency services 24/7 days a week. The sooner you begin the remediation process, the more likely you are to lessen the cost of the loss.

Smoke & Soot Remediation

Abate the Damage. Heat-Warm or heated air rises and migrates to cold areas such as outside walls and closets. Heat causes pores in surfaces to expand which then readily accepts the smoke residue and odor. Pressure-The energy created by the fire produces heat which enables the smoke to penetrate into the most minute cracks and crevices. Impingement-Burned objects can hit another surface with sufficient velocity so it will impinge (or splatter) and remain on the surface. Think of candle wax. Magnetism-Smoke is attracted to metal surfaces including plumbing pipes, nail heads and metal coat hangers. Ionization-Opposites attract so smoke webs may form on structural surfaces. Plastic bags on clothing from dry cleaners retain electrical charges which attract smoke. More smoke residue can be found on clothing inside plastic bags in the closet as opposed to unprotected clothing!!!
